Letter from the Mayor:

I would like to apologize to those effected by our chipping program this year. I made the decision to Chip our roads in the Borough because I know first hand how it works, unfortunately this was not the time of the year to do so.
As I discussed with my DPW Director, our Seal Coat Operation in Lackawanna County has come a long way and has done some impressive work in the past few years, what occurred does not represent their work or the work that was performed in the Borough. It’s easy to point fingers and look at things in hindsight and say “woulda coulda shoulda” but that doesn’t’ resolve anything. In my opinion, what occurred this past October was the result of a series of events- the year has been wet and programs fell behind, the end of the chipping season was fast approaching and the weather patterns have been unpredictable; I made the decision to continue to Chip even though this was not the time to do so. The weather pattern looked dry for the week so I took a shot. Seal Coat does work and I want to prove it to you. I spoke to PaDOT’s County Manger and the roads that were chipped last year will be re-done in July/August of this year. I want to make sure everyone is happy with the outcome and so does PADOT.
Thank you,
Mayor James Segilia
